Clinch River Site Area Geologic Map

The geologic map above was pieced together from four plates published in the recent Clinch River Nuclear Site, Early Site Permit Application, Part 1, Revision 0 (Geology, Seismology, and Geotechnical Engineering chapter). The mapping was conducted at a 5-mile radius around the CRNS site, and utilizes hillshade, topographic linework, and Holocene/Pleistocene terrace mapping. It appears to be an outstanding example of merging existing geologic mapping resources with new technologies (LiDAR elevation base). If you zoom in (better yet, make it full screen by clicking on the navigation button) the power of LiDAR becomes apparent as karst depressions become apparent throughout the massive carbonates of the Knox Group. This is a great map to study!
